Falmouth Climbs Ten Places in the Guardian University Guide

Falmouth has been ranked 21 out of the UK’s 119 universities in the Guardian University Guide 2017.

Leaping ten places, Falmouth sees improved scores in graduate employability as well as student satisfaction in courses and teaching.

This most recent ranking once again places us as the UK’s highest ranked Arts University, an accolade also given by The Sunday Times League Table 2016 and the Complete University Guide 2017.

Success in the subject ratings sees us climb up to fifth for business, management and marketing, eighth for design and crafts, ninth for fashion and textiles and 11th for film production and photography.

Professor Anne Carlisle, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, said: “This result – the highest league table position achieved in our entire history – reflects our strategic focus on student satisfaction, and getting graduates into great jobs. It is also a testament to our staff who deliver high quality teaching and support for our students. The University is in a truly exciting period of major development, and it is an honour to have our continued success recognised in the league tables.”

The Guardian University Guide offers a comprehensive assessment of undergraduate provisions across the UK.

DIME is visiting Cleveland Guitar Center!

Screen Shot 2016-05-20 at 11.49.01 AM

Professional musician and educator Drew Schultz comes to Guitar Center on Mayfield Road to teach a masterclass on musicianship, performance, touring, networking, and how to approach and maintain becoming a professional working musician. An alumni of the Shaker Heights Public Schools, Drew is a drum instructor at the Detroit Institute of Music Education, and has toured / recorded / written / worked with artists including the Four Tops, Temptations, Aretha Franklin, Funk Brothers, Maurice White of Earth Wind & Fire, Mary Wilson of The Supremes, Martha Reeves, The Miracles, The Dramatics, The Contours, Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes, Reginald Torian of The Impressions, Lenny Pickett of SNL/Tower of Power, and many more. In the contemporary entertainment industry, it is necessary to conduct yourself with the mindset of an entrepreneurial, self-employed businessman. Delivered through the lens of DIME, now wrapping up its second academic year, this presentation will dive into the concepts of mentorship, networking, versatility, open-mindedness, and “simple done well.” Speaker Drew Schultz will mix live drumming demonstrations with stories and lessons taken from his career on paying dues, following unexpected paths, connecting with heroes, advocating for music education, and taking steps to forging a long and sustainable career in a reliably unreliable industry. This presentation is geared towards anyone who has seriously considered pursuing a career in the music industry, or is curious about the inner workings of the music business.
