Special Guest! Grammy Award-Winning Blues Guitarist – Bobby Murray Comes to DIME

Bobby Murray
Bobby Murray is a Grammy award-winning blues and jazz guitarist who accompanied the legendary vocalist Etta James for more than two decades. He has also performed and recorded with B.B. King, Albert King, John Lee Hooker, Taj Mahal, and many more! He is the recipient of the Detroit Blues Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Bobby is an active force in the Detroit blues community, releasing his latest album I’m Sticking with You in 2013. Bobby and his band will be doing a Masterclass for DIME students this week!

JENA IRENE SIGNS TO ORIGINAL 1265

Internationally recognised singer-songwriter Jena Irene Ascuitto, better known as simply “Jena Irene” after a long run on the hit television show “American Idol”, has signed a long term record deal with DIME’s affiliate record label, Original 1265 Recordings. Jena Irene joins Detroit artists MPV and Charity, as well as British band Wildflowers on the 1265 roster.

Original 1265 Recordings Releases MPV’s Debut EP: In Lust We Trust

DIME’s affiliate label, Original 1265 Recordings, has released the debut EP from Detroit band, MPV.  In Lust We Trust features the live favourite “Wrong Girl” as well as the lead track “Mister Sister” and 2 others.

Stereo Embers Magazine writes, “Not only does MPV ride the storied tradition of classic Detroit rock, but they’re also driven by the sounds of bands like L7, The Breeders, Nirvana, and Sonic Youth. Add in some unforgettable arrangements, catchy melodies, spot-on harmonies and you have a sound that’s raw, rebellious, and always right on.”

STEVE NISTOR VISITING DIME – Thursday, April 23rd

Steve Nistor is an LA-based touring and studio drummer who has played with Danger Mouse, Gnarls Barkley, Daniel Lanois, Emmylou Harris, Iron & Wine, Robert Plant, and many more.

He will perform with DIME faculty and students as well as discuss touring, studio sessions, networking, and the zen drum (electronic percussion instrument).

Dawn French Installed as Falmouth University’s First Chancellor

Dawn French has been formally installed as Falmouth University’s first Chancellor on the 26th March 2015. The day was marked by celebration and fanfare and the DIME Directors were honoured to be in attendance at this momentous occasion. During her first speech on the day – Chancellor, the actor, writer and performer said she would be “a warrior” for the students and for the University.
