Dennis Coffey is a legendary Guitar groundbreaker responsible for bringing effects pedals and rock sounds to Motown and Soul music. As a member of Motown’s Funk Brothers session band, Dennis recorded on endless hits by artists including Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Undisputed Truth, Edwin Star, and many more. His guitar can be heard on iconic classics including “Papa Was A Rolling Stone,” “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me),” “War (What Is It Good For),” and more songs by Barbara Streisand, Ringo Starr, and Wilson Pickett, among others. As a solo artist, he is known for his Gold single “Scorpio” which has been sampled by hip hop artists from Chuck D to The Fugees. He is the producer of the Cold Fact LP by “Searching for Sugarman” star Rodriguez, and has performed live with artists including The Roots, Les Paul Trio, performing for Bonnaroo, SXSW, Red Bull Music Academy, Soul Train, Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon, and much more.
Dennis will be discussing his storied career, answering questions about the industry and his path, and demonstrating iconic licks and techniques using multiple effects and pedals.
