Joe Choma – Music Industry Studies

Joe teaches the Music Industry Event Management class at DIME. His career in the music industry started as a passion project: a booking agency routing tours for developing artists around the country, with Joe booking calls from the car during his lunch hour at a brokerage firm job. Since those early days, his company, Grand Circus, continues to evolve and grow. Cultivating local talent is at the heart of all Grand Circus events; whether it’s live music, or craft beer and cocktails, promoting local artistry furthers the company’s ethos of community involvement. Joe’s experience as a booking agent, artist manager, and publicist provides him with a diverse skillset and his breadth of experience allows him to seamlessly manage any and all facets of event production and execution.

Joe has worked with some of the world’s largest international promoters. Whether it’s running point on a national festival in Detroit with C3 Presents, booking Leon Bridges for a Shinola boutique show, directing beverage operations for national music festivals (Orion Music Festival – C3 Presents, Mo Pop Festival – AEG, and Camp Greensky Festival), producing multiple SXSW events promoting and celebrating Michigan/Detroit, managing artist relations for one of the most respected electronic music festivals in the world (Movement – Paxahau), or curating a Craft Village at a 50K person country festival (Faster Horses – Live Nation), Joe has done it all. Joe believes that he has been fortunate to develop a career that continues to challenge and inspire him on a daily basis while working within some of his greatest passions. He is excited to share his experience with the Detroit students!
