DIME DETROIT Music Entrepreneurship Senior Angelo Coppola, is revving up his new project “The Lows” for an EP release show Saturday, December 30th at The Loving Touch in Ferndale. The show will be The Lows second live performance, following their debut to a packed house at the world-famous Machine Shop in Flint earlier this month. We sat down with Angelo to discuss the project.
How have your studies at DIME prepared you for this moment?
Over the past 3 years, the business program at DIME has really shown me how to run a successful music release. We have constantly studied how to be successful and the steps you need to take in order to achieve your goals, and without that, I wouldn’t have this project or any knowledge on how to take it to the next level! I am so ready to show the world what I am made of!
How has DIME impacted your approach in releasing music?
With recording and releasing this album, I have learned that it is super important for the project to look and sound as professional as possible. With the endless amounts of new music being released every day, it is important to take the necessary steps to stand out from the crowd. I enlisted Chuck Alkazian, a Grammy award-winning producer to ensure the recordings sounded as good as possible and to make sure the packaging and artwork stood out and looked cool! All of this was stuff I learned from my classes at DIME Detroit, which focused on how to be successful in this industry!
Who is in the band, The Lows?
Providing the heavy beats for The Lows is DIME Detroit year 3 Drum student Duane Hewins. Duane is a perfect match to enforce the band’s hard-hitting grooves. Brandon McNall was brought aboard to play guitar and Johnny Abel, also known as Wolf, is our bassist. The chemistry between everyone was magic! Wolf helped bring in guitarist Mike Leslie, of Candlebox, who is also celebrating a new release and performing with his own power trio The Mike Leslie Band on December 30th.
Angelo credits DIME with helping him keep his motivation high and preparing him for the many responsibilities a professional musician must maintain. He looks forward to earning his degree from DIME this coming Spring, and plans to continue teaching music lessons, working at music licensing firm North Star Media, drumming for other artists, and leading The Lows to a successful future.
